The Pacific Games is a major event on the calendar for all Pacific nations. Held ever 4 years, this year’s event, the 17th, was held in Honiara, Solomon Islands. 24 countries were represented in 27 sports.
Our chief instructor Sensei Alison Peachey 6th Dan represented Australia as a neutral referee for the karate tournament. As a World Karate Federation official, she joined referees from Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti and New Caledonia for the two day event.
It was hot!!!! The karate was held in a spacious and airy venue with an excellent WKF tatami. Being across the road from the dining hall (feeding 5000 athletes and officials each day) and the main stadium, the team of referees also enjoyed their free time watching sport: rugby 7’s, weightlifting, volleyball, basketball, swimming and tennis.
