Meet Sensei Leighton Wren 5th Dan

Sensei Leighton Wren 5th Dan’s journey with Ishinryu began at the young age of nine, when his karate training first commenced. Over three decades later, he has become one of the most outstanding competitors and instructors that Ishinryu in Australia has ever produced.

As a teenager, Sensei Leighton achieved his shodan (1st Dan black belt), and he developed an immense interest in the competition side of karate. He excelled in the field, becoming a national age champion at just 16 years old. His adult tournament career was even more impressive, representing NSW for nine years and winning four National titles. Additionally, he won four Australian Open titles.

Sensei Leighton’s exceptional skills and commitment earned him the opportunity to represent Australia at four Oceania (three silver medals), a Commonwealth and Junior World Championships.

Sensei Leighton’s passion for martial arts has driven him to also become a senior black belt instructor with Ishinryu Karate’s Menai dojo in the Sutherland Shire. His dedication and hard work have seen him become accredited bronze (level 1) dojo coach via Sport Australia/AIS.
