Guardian Girls Karate instructors with national program director

Confidence, power, self-esteem, coordination, fun!

We have TWO guardian girls accredited instructors!

Guardian Girls Karate instructors with national program director

In April Sensei Alison and Sempai Nerralie participated in the Guardian Girls Karate Australia Instructor Course, led by National Program Director Liz Mahler (who was also Sensei Alison’s first state coach in 1993 😊).

Working alongside 32 highly experienced martial artists, Sensei Nerralie summed it up perfectly: it was “the safest and most dangerous room” to be in 😄👊.

Whilst all are skilled in traditional and sport karate, this course takes a specific female self-defence perspective.

This involved developing practical, self-defence-based skills focused on building confidence, awareness, and real-world personal safety (we’re talking big voices, confident stances, and particularly nasty and effective elbows, open hand strikes, hammerfists and kicks), alongside how to effectively teach these skills to others (in particular, those entirely new to martial arts and not used to “rough play”).

This was fun.

It was invigorating.

And we’re keen to share.

We are looking forward to exploring how to offer this program to our own community, starting with our girls, women, mums, and sisters. Look out for your opportunity later this term.
