Meet Sensei Alison Peachey 6th Dan

Chief Instructor of Ishinryu Karate NSW

Sensei Alison Peachey 6th Dan is a highly accomplished karate practitioner and instructor with over 30 years of experience training with Ishinryu. As the highest graded female instructor in the world, she has achieved a number of impressive accolades throughout her career. She is the first and only official from Ishinryu to be appointed by the World Karate Federation.

Sensei Alison is currently a World Karate Federation Kumite Judge, Oceania Kumite Referee and Kata Judge, the highest graded Ishinryu referee in history. She has officiated at a World Championship in Chile in 2019, in the  Premier Leagues in Dubai in 2018, China and Japan in 2019 and Japan in 2023, and the Pacific Games in Vanuatu in 2017 and the Solomon Islands in 2023. For over 20 years she has officiated at Oceania, continental Open and National championships.

Apart from being an accomplished competitor, Sensei Alison is also a dedicated referee trainer, providing guidance to emerging and developing referees. She is one of five members of the Australian Karate Federation’s Referees commission, and the secretary of the NSW Karate Federation’s Referees commission.

Throughout her career, Sensei Alison has won several accolades as an athlete, including winning bronze for Australia in her kumite division at the 1999 Oceania Championships in Wellington. For 7 years she represented NSW and was state champion three times, with 12 minor placings and won five consecutive kumite bronze medals at the Australian Open. At age 39 (and with two infant children) she became the NSW East Coast University kumite champion.

Sensei Alison’s dedication to martial arts is evident in her training and instructing experience. She has trained on Sensei Ticky Donovan OBE 10th Dan’s summer course in England four times, including the historic 50th anniversary course in 2023. She has also instructed at Canadian Ishinryu camps twice and participated in five AKF national training camps.

Her achievements and experience have been recognised by Sport Australia/AIS, accrediting her as a silver (level 2) dojo instructor.

Sensei Alison is the Chief Instructor and a senior black belt instructor at Ishinryu Karate’s Menai dojo in the Sutherland Shire.
